Our last day in Florence included a very interesting experience at the post office, Michelangelo's David, and a 2hr train to Venice.
We did a bit of shopping in Florence which required us to ship much of the goods back to the US. The post office was super confusing and our postman spoke no English. We spent the better part of an hour trying to decipher the post documents and have our fingers crossed our package will arrive.
David was one of the best sights on our trip. I learned a lot about this sculpture I never knew. It's much much bigger than I thought. My guess would be 10-12ft tall. It's just massive, super detailed, and very impressive! We sat and stared at it for a while. It's an amazing work.
Where we're going, we don't need roads... Venice is just crazy! Immediately after getting off the train from Florence you are greeted by water. We took a water taxi down grand canal to our hotel. The whole city is on the water as everyone knows, but it's just a trip to see it in person. No cars, scooters, or anything with a wheel. It takes a while for your brain to get used to seeing water everywhere you expect to see concrete. Doorsteps and stairs belly right up to the water.
It has been a bit rainy and there is rain scheduled for tomorrow so we will see what tomorrow brings. I promise lots of pictures, but this city is something you have to see to believe.

Trip sounds freaking amazing, a 5 course meal for lunch, I'm impressed. How was the pasta ragu???
ReplyDeleteI made some real french bread tonight in honor of you guys. Where are you off to next?
Hey CP! How did your French Bread turn out? :) Maybe we should cook up a big Italian dinner when we get back! Today and tomorrow part of the day we will be in Venice and then heading to London, Zurich (Switzerland), Vienna (Austria), and Amsterdam (Netherlands). Next time when we do part 2 in a couple years maybe we can get a small group! Miss ya!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE DAVID! One of the most spectacular things I've ever seen. So glad you are seeing all of these incredible things. I want to participate in Italian dinner. I have a pretty good ravioli recipe and tiramisu recipe from when we did our cooking class over there.
