Today is our second day in Rome and we have loved every moment of it! We are leaving tomorrow afternoon for Florence (by train) so we have had a lot to pack in of this beautiful city. Adam and I both wish that we had another day here. Today we started the day a little slow due to our colds we came down with, however I am excited to report that we are definitely on the up and up and feeling much better now! :)
Adam ran out this morning and picked us up some coffee and pastries, which has definitely become our morning ritual since starting this journey and one that I have become to love. The coffee in Italy is "super cute" as I say because it comes in this tiny little cup. Although I love it I'm pretty sure the one thing Adam misses from the States are the giant cups of drip coffee in the morning. I have decided though that all of Europe certainly knows how to do a pastry better than anywhere else.
After our breakfast we headed out to the double deck tour bus that we have been taking around town here. The weather has been incredible with a consistent forecast of sunny and 70 so perfect sightseeing weather. We had planned to do the Vatican and Sistine Chapel today however Europe had a Holiday (we have also realized there are lots of these here) so unfortunately we had to push that to tomorrow. Instead today we went to Piazza Venezia, Trevi Fountain , and the Pantheon. Rome reminds me of Paris in the way that every corner you take you seem to find another breathtaking site. Rome is such an old city and this really is evident in all of the beautiful buildings that they have done a great job of keeping up.
Today for lunch we both enjoyed our own Margarita pizzas and afterwards Adam sampled some gelato which looked equally delicious. Tonight we are going to sample another one of the million inviting restaurants you see in the city as you pass by.....probably to have round two of some handmade pasta! I feel like 75% of the restaurants here are called "Ristorante and Pizzeria". Not a bad combination I must say myself!
As I mentioned before tomorrow we will be visiting an Art Gallery, the Vatican, and the Sistine Chapel before heading to Florence later tomorrow afternoon. This will be our first high speed train of the trip so I'm pretty excited for that.
Ciao friends and family! Miss you!
Shelby and Adam
